NYC Daily

A daily browser game in the Wordle family, for New York. Five locations are named — a landmark, a park, a deli — and the player finds each one on unlabelled satellite imagery, scored on how close the tap lands. One puzzle a day, the same five for everyone, shareable as a grid of squares. React 19 and TypeScript with MapLibre GL over New York City's own aerial surveys, Vercel serverless functions, and Postgres. Scoring is a stretched exponential tuned so that missing by a neighbourhood still earns something while tapping the middle of Manhattan earns nothing, which is the constraint the whole curve is squeezed against. The content pipeline is the harder half: fifty days of puzzles built from Wikipedia and geocoded against Nominatim, then served one day at a time behind a server-side date gate so tomorrow's answers cannot be read today. Telemetry is opt-in, and a second set of deliberately anonymous counters exists alongside it because a consent-gated table cannot distinguish nobody playing from nobody opting in.
